The word Närke is originally the uniting of two words which mean the border district by the lake. The area is a flat landscape next to Begslagen in the north, Hjälmaren to the east and Tiveden and Tylöskog in the south. The lakes Unden, Viken and Skagerne are in the area of Tiveden. The lake Viken is crossed by the Göta Canal. In this area, you will also find Finnerödja which is famous for its strawberries.
Närke offers manifold art and design, exciting fifty-inspired architecture, paintings by Carl Larsson and sculpture parks. Furthermore it is possible to come across unexpected experiences such as the Kinaparken outside of Askersund, a Buddhistic peace monument in Fellingsbrotrakten and the largest collection of VW bubbles in the world in Pålsboda.
